It is the Mission of the Dumas Fire Department to protect the lives and property of the citizens we serve by providing fire prevention, fire suppression, fire investigation, special rescue, emergency medical services, and hazardous materials response. We provide these services with highly trained professional personnel, quality tools and equipment, and state of the art techniques with the resources provided.

chief prayThe Dumas Fire Department is an ISO Class 2 combination fire department comprised of sixteen paid professional firefighters and thirty "on-call" volunteer firefighters.  Dumas Fire Department is led by Fire Chief Ron Pray.  Dumas Firefighters work a typical fire department shift schedule, and are assigned to shift A, B, or C.  They work a 24 hour on duty, and 48 hour off duty shift schedule.  All firefighters employed at the Dumas Fire Department must be Texas Commission on Fire Protection (TCFP) Basic Suppression Certified, and Department of State Health Services (DSHS) Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT).  DFD minimum requirements include TCFP Firefighter I/II, DSHS EMT, and TCFP Hazardous Materials Technician.  The Volunteer firefighters supplement the paid staff twenty-four hours a day, as the need arises.

Dumas Fire Department responds to an average of 1100 emergency calls annually.  These calls encompass a wide variety of situations.  Call types include:  structure fires, grass fires, motor vehicle accidents, medical calls, hazardous materials incidents, and special rescues.  The fire department is actively involved in fire prevention with the cooperation of the Dumas Independent School District, as well as a number of private and civic organizations.

The apparatus maintained by the department consist of two Class A Engines, one 75ft Quint, one Haz-Mat Response and Mobile Command Unit, three Booster Trucks; two Rescue Units, two Tankers, and two Command Units.
